MISSION STATEMENT

The Texas Thoroughbred Association is the steward of Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Texas.  We are entrusted with the administration of the Accredited Texas-bred Program.  We maintain the sport's history and help shape its future.  Our goal is to promote racing and breeding in Texas, foster its improvement, and attract and educate owners and breeders.

Founded in 1955 by a group of Dallas businessmen, the Texas Thoroughbred Association (formerly known as the Texas Thoroughbred Breeders Association) has approximately 1,00 members. Now headquartered in Austin, the TTA offers many unique services and programs designed to promote Thoroughbred breeding, owning and racing in Texas.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association, which is governed by an elected 21-member Board of Directors, is mandated by the Texas Racing Act to administer the Accredited Texas-Bred (ATB) Program. The ATB Program was designed to enhance and promote the Texas breeding and racing industry, in part by providing incentive awards for Thoroughbred owners and breeders.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association sponsors a number of lucrative stakes races throughout the year, including the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity and Texas Stallion Stakes Series. TTA is a major supporter of signature Texas-bred racing events at the state’s three Class 1 Thoroughbred racetracks, including Stars of Texas Day at Lone Star Park, Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Day at Retama Park and Texas Champions Weekend at Sam Houston Race Park. In addition, TTA contributes added money to the purses of a number of Texas-bred stakes throughout the year at Texas racetracks.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association conducts a 2-year-olds in training sale in the spring and a yearling and mixed sale in the summer, held in the Texas Thoroughbred Sales Pavilion located on the grounds of Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association also:

Monitors legislative activities and actively supports or opposes legislation on behalf of the Thoroughbred industry at the state capitol
Conducts New Owner Seminars to educate newcomers to the racing industry
Assists Texas racetracks in promotions
Publishes informational material
Hosts special functions on behalf of Texas Thoroughbred owners, breeders, trainers and racing enthusiasts.
